While everyone was scrambling to buy benefit tickets early this week, Nederland’s fusion-based powerhouse Fat Rabbit took a more direct approach.
The band announced last night that their next gig, this Friday, Sept. 24 at the First Street Pub in Nederland, will be centered on collecting donations to help support the Gold Hill Elementary School.
“A sizeable portion of funding for Gold Hill Elementary comes from donations from the local Gold Hill community. Needless to say, that community’s ability to help fund the school has been dealt a serious blow. The band will be making a generous donation,” they announced in a release.
Fat Rabbit features Bruce Lish on sax, George Stone on keys, Andy Gaydos on guitar, Juri Freeman on bass, John Heiland on electric mandolin and Larry Novissimo on drums. Freeman, Heiland and Novissimo have played together before as 3/5ths of the bluegrass fusion band Shanti Groove.
