We’re not saying they are these guys, but they kind of sound like: Phish, Umphrey’s McGee
What’s their deal?: There’s no doubting that Smooth Money Gesture is a jam band, but their approach to the noodle-fest that is their genre is much more of a classic rock take on jam. Soaring guitar licks don’t get lost in the ample compositions, and yeah, they explore a bit, like all jam bands do, but it’s not like they’re out wandering when they “go there.” It’s more direct, if that makes sense. But, it’s still no wonder that the band came out of Nederland, where being a little out there is par for the course along the Freak to Freak Highway.
