Slim Cessna’s Auto Club
Unentitled
Alternative Tentacles
4 out of 5 stars
Slim Cessna’s Auto Club has never been at a loss for descriptions. Their goth-country-revival sound has elicited more amazing descriptions than you can shake a rattlesnake-skinned Bible at. But nothing even comes close to their label owner (and former Boulderite) Jello Biafra, who said, “This is the country band that plays the bar at the end of the world.” They’re dark, they’re dingy, riveting and, like Biafra suggests, would fit in perfectly in a bar scene in Pirates of the Carribean. (Let’s hope Disney hears Slim before the next three Pirates films are released.)
That said, Slim Cessna’s Auto Club is not a diverse-sounding band, and they don’t have to be. Unentitled starts right where 2008’s Cipher left off. In fact, Unentitled even takes another stab at the track “A Smashing Indictment of Character,” which originally appeared on Cipher. The fact that the Auto Club has stuck to their sound is probably why Unentitled works. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

Comments have suggested that I am incorrect about the reworking of the song “A Smashing Indictment of Character.” If I am wrong, than I have a weird copy of Cipher on my HD:

“Unentitled even takes another stab at the track “A Smashing Indictment of Character,” which originally appeared on Cipher.”
Huh?
Yeah, “Smashing Indictment” isn’t on Cipher, though. This is the 1st time it has ever been recorded in a studio…
I hear you, but I’m not sure you’re right. It’s on my copy of Cipher for sure. Is there any chance that I have some super-awesome deluxe version or something?
Well it, for sure isn’t on my copy, and I got mine at the CD release show back in 2008. In fact, I bought the 7th copy ever sold. Check out these links-

These tracklistings seem to support that “Smashing Indictment” isn’t on the hard copy of Cipher. Did you buy a download instead of a hardcopy?
If you do have an extra song on Cipher, it is your duty to share it with us.
