Last month, in our 120th, ten-year anniversary issue, I explained that there were impending celebrations on the horizon.
This month, I can thankfully announce said celebrations. And dang if we ain’t psyched.
We’re going to split things up into two parties over three nights, and while that math might not appear to add up, allow me to explain.
On Friday and Saturday, April 12 and 13, The Marquee will take over Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom for two nights of the famed Greyboy Allstars. Having the seminal band play this party at a local venue for a local promoter is the culmination of all that we have worked for over the years — bridging the gap between national acts and our local music community.
It’s a huge coming-home event of sorts for us to be able to host this at Cervantes. The former owner of Cervantes was one of the first promoters to see our vision of The Marquee and the current crew has been simply wonderful to work with over the years. They’ve found this amazing ability to keep the chill atmosphere of the establishment, while bolstering the professionalism on the business side of things. It’s a mentality that we always strive to have as well, and we’re happy to team with such like-minded individuals for these shows.
The following weekend, Friday, April 19, we’ll be hosting our second celebration by doing what we call “big band, intimate venue.” That night we’ll start cramming Oskars Blues Grill and Brew in Lyons with more sound than it was designed to hold, when we present Strange Americans supporting New Orleans’ Soul Rebels. We’re moderately concerned that we might actually blow the roof off the joint, and we’re slightly more concerned about the possibility of a big guy playing a sousaphone in a low-ceiling environ. This could get interesting.
After years of living in Alaska where live music is a rarity, to say the least, Oskar Blues was the very first place I saw live music on the Front Range, only days after moving to Colorado in 2000. It’s been a blast to watch that business grow from their modest beginnings into the nationwide powerhouse of craft brewing that they’ve become, and their ability to have fun while doing it oozes from every project they’re involved in.
Keep an eye out on our social media feeds for more details about the events, including tickets and times.
These shows are our Thank Yous to the music community that has supported us so whole heartedly over the years, and we can’t wait to have you join us.
See you at the shows.
