Boulder’s legendary Fox Theatre was ablaze with music Monday evening as a special memorial took place honoring Joe Cahill, a longtime veteran of the Boulder music scene, whose tragic death two weeks ago has hit this community hard.
The event, held as a benefit for Cahill’s young daughter Cassidy, was a fitting tribute to the life that the lighting designer led. It featured performances by the Motet and members of String Cheese Incident, Yonder Mountain String Band and Leftover Salmon, as well as a handful of other gifted musicians from the local music scene. The sold out venue was jam-packed with Cahill’s friends and family as well as many who came up to enjoy the music and feel the good vibes emanating from the stage as the bands played to a backdrop of slides featuring Joe and friends. The man who once lit the way for many, literally, was celebrated by all whom he influenced and who inspired him and those in attendance clearly returned the favor, illuminating his way home.
