The 200 person crowd in the intimate eTown Hall had the special opportunity to witness a true rock history icon of the past 50 years, Leon Russell. Recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Russell has many claims to fame including being an integral part of Phil Spector’s “Wall of Sound,” Leading Joe Cockers “Mad Dogs and Englishmen” tour, his involvement in The Concerts for Bangladesh, touring with Edgar Winter, Elton john, Willie Nelson and more. Russell has consistently made his own unique, funky and quirky gospel-infused southern boogie piano rock, blues and country music. The guy seated next to me was reminiscing about when Russell headlined Boulder’s Folsom Field in the ’70s, arriving to the stage and a full house in a shiny limo as the band began. Russell is back at it, touring strong and playing powerhouse shows featuring a great band;  jamming tons of songs back to back in each set, go see this legend if you can.
