September 19 – 21
Sports Authority Field at Mile High Stadium – Denver, Colo.
Riot Fest and Sideshow is sort of the anti-festival festival. There aren’t drum circles or bluegrass jams at Riot Fest. There are more mohawks than there are dreadlocks and attendees don’t put on sun screen to be safe, they only do it to protect their tattoos.
Riot Fest is a nostalgic carnival and sideshow complete with sketchy rides, semi-professional wrestling and funnel cake, but it’s also one of the most raucous music festivals of the summer.
Born in Chicago in 2005, Riot Fest spent seven years as a multi-venue festival, utilizing multiple Chicago haunts to host all of the performances. In 2012 Riot Fest put all the shows in one place — Chicago’s Humboldt Park, which gave promoters the room to add the “and Sideshow” to the event. Also in 2012, the festival broke out of Chicago, expanding the carnage to Brooklyn, Toronto and Dallas. Denver was added in 2013.
This year the festival will move from it’s original east-of-Denver locale, to right downtown at Mile High.
You’re going to come home talking about: The sideshow.
Travel time: (Denver, Colo. to Denver, Colo.) Total Est. Time: You’re already there, duder.
You Need to Know: Sports Authority Field can be blistering hot even in mid-September, so as much as you love your black jeans and leather jacket, it might be best to dress for the weather, rather than the occasion. Remember, you won’t look your best when you’re passed out from heatstroke.
Camping: Nope, but plenty of hotels near by, or only a short bike or cab ride away.
