DTREE’s latest six-song digital release sounds like the legendary soul singer Barry White experimenting with electronica. DTREE, aka Dimitri Mikael Zaugg, composed all of the instrumentals, which mix the ambient baby-making grooves of White with a bit of house beats and some fuzzy, bizarre vocals that flow from hip-hop to rich velvet lounge serenades. The stand out eight-minute title track “New Light” takes its sweet time coming to life, and the vocals could frankly be put aside, but when the track finally gets moving at the half-way point, the live saxophone of Eli Cagen soars over the song’s foundation and unites the dance party and the bedroom into one sexy mess.
