Wayfarer
Children of the Iron Age
Prosthetic Records
3.5 out of 5 stars
Denver black metalists Wayfarer throw down some incredibly brutal tracks on their latest effort, Children of the Iron Age — the band’s first album for Prosthetic Records. But it’s not all double-kick drums, power chords and growling lyrics. Amidst their angst and their blistering metal licks, is a post-metal exploration that paints wide open atmospheres, and incorporates some downright tender moments.
Four of the eight songs on the album clock in at over 10 minutes (with one reaching an astounding 15 minutes, plus), while two more of the tracks come darn close to the nine-minute mark. Those lengths allow Wayfarer to explore some heavy as well as heady material all in one song — and for vinyl collectors it means a Gatefold 2xLP.
