Coming out of the gate strong for its inaugural year, Hinterland is an aptly named event. Hinterland means the land behind a river, or the rural area near a city, and with the event taking place in the city’s downtown Water Works Park, the festival will blend an out-in-the-country-feel with urban conveniences close by.
Hinterland features a diverse lineup that ranges from folky Americana, to indie flair, to jamgrass and singer/songwriters, and with a location that can accommodate 8,000 people, it seems as if Hinterland is setting the stage to grow into a pretty sizable event in short order. While this may be the festival’s first year the promoter behind it has been booking Des Moines Nitefall on the River concert series, and said that this festival is a collection of that series’ number one acts.
