Sometimes follow-up albums can take a while. For Denver’s Sad Star Café “a while” meant almost 14 years.
The band, which had a successful initial run from 1999 to 2003, got caught up with life, while members went separate directions to persue their own muses. But in 2013 a ten-year reunion show rekindled the spark and eventually lead the five-piece modern rock band back to the studio for this self-titled release. All songs are written by lead singer Mark Sundermeier, or they’re co-writes between him and lead guitarist Kirk Schneider, and they run the gamut from straight-forward modern rockers to more classic-rock romps.
