Kiki Wilder
Thief In The Night
With a sort of “Tiptoe through the Tulips” vibrato and high falsetto Kiki Wilder sings songs that sound like they were recorded half a century ago. Wilder doesn’t sound remotely like Tiny Tim, and doesn’t appear to be even close to as odd as the departed folk singer, nor does she sing every line in the shaky high voice, but it’s almost always there. On the semi-cowboy waltz of “Austin,” Wilder shifts from her sweet soprano to the old-fashioned sounding jazzy pitch. On “Wish You Were Here” her vocal approach is straight forward, but as soon as she hits the bridge, the quiver returns for a couple brief, cool seconds.
