Anyone who has ever attended any of the large festivals in Telluride can hardly begin to imagine the close-knit local feeling of the Telluride Jazz Festival. Ask a local and they’ll tell you that some of the other festivals that hit town are for musical tourists, whereas Telluride Jazz is for locals.
Miraculously, Telluride Jazz, which turns 40 this year, has been able to maintain a home-grown feeling, while attracting international superstars to celebrate the art, soul, history and future of the genre. The festival’s Jazz After Dark late night concert series puts artists from the main stage into historic venues for an intimate live music experience. Special sit-ins, artist collaborations, and incredible improvisation are commonplace during these exclusive performances.
