Desert Minded

Fort Collins’ synth pop quartet Slow Caves recently told Westword that they view their name as a verb — that “our music is the sound of your mind slowly caving in on itself.”

As psychedelic as that description may be, Slow Caves newest effort Desert Minded doesn’t sound nearly that dark. The four track EP features some deep, but not dark, synth rock arrangements coupled with some punky, poppy lyrics. Even when Jakob Mueller sings “I’m the spider that crawls inside your head” on “Son 15” there’s a levity interwoven with the heavy sentiment and that balance keeps the EP high on the priority list of summer rotations.
