While many view this four day extravaganza on South Broadway as Denver’s answer to Austin’s infamous SxSW, the reality is that The Denver Post Underground Music Showcase is truly a celebration of the local music scene and is not the barrage of corporate advertising and wanna-be scenesters that SxSW has turned into. It’s true that there are some national acts scattered across the event’s nearly 20 stages, but the focus is on the best and brightest Colorado-based talent and that’s enough to draw more than 20,000 music lovers to catch more than 400 bands in venues ranging from makeshift stages set up in restaurants, tattoo shops, and even a library, to established rooms like the Hi-Dive and 3 Kings Tavern. This event is an absolutely crucial snapshot of the local music scene.
