Slim Cessna’s Auto Club Unentitled Alternative Tentacles 4 out of 5 stars Slim Cessna’s Auto Club has never been at a loss for descriptions. Their goth-country-revival sound has elicited more amazing descriptions than you can shake a rattlesnake-skinned Bible at. But nothing even comes close to their label owner (and former Boulderite) Jello Biafra, who said, “This is the country band that plays the bar at the end of the world.” They’re dark, they’re dingy, riveting and, like Biafra suggests, would fit in perfectly in a bar scene in Pirates of the Carribean. (Let’s hope Disney hears Slim before the next three Pirates films are released.) That said, Slim Cessna’s Auto Club is not a diverse-sounding band, and they don’t have to be. Unentitled starts right where 2008’s Cipher left off. In fact, Unentitled even takes another stab at the track “A Smashing Indictment of Character,” which originally appeared on Cipher. The fact that the Auto Club has stuck to their sound is probably why Unentitled works. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. — Brian F.
