Bottle Rocket Science

Bottle Rocket Science talks with more than a hint of disdain on their Facebook page about a lot of hipsters discovering Waylon Jennings at 25. “That’s not us,” they write. “We’re old by band standards and we grew up on this shit.” They also brag “we do pretty well for a bunch of old dudes.” Their self-titled LP is a testament to that statement in more ways than one. They do in fact do pretty well presenting a mix of country, rock and 1980s rawness that ranges from the Boss-like “Broken Hearts,” to the Van Halen-ey swagger of “49,” and the shit-kickiness of “The Fall.” One of the album highlights is the blues noir of “Town Turned Down, Pt. 1,” which features Murry Mercier of Strange Americans on keyboards.
