Corey Rezner
Mercy Mercy
The split resident of Denver and Fairhope, Ala. has put forth a fantastically rich debut album. Recorded at Admiral Bean Studio, in an area referred to as “the other L.A. — Lower Alabama,” Rezner took more than a dozen years of experience playing live shows and neatly folded it into nine, delicate, well-written songs. While Rezner shows some serious acoustic techniques, it’s the songwriting, not the guitar work, that stands out on Mercy Mercy. With a relaxed southern drawl stride, Rezner’s deep baritone wraps the songs in a comfortable approachability that is inviting and familiar. Like the waters of the bayou Rezner is content with a relaxed pace and Mercy Mercy sets and keeps that tempo with calm aplomb.
